Angela Zimmann Blasts Opponent’s Record on Women, Women’s Health

Perrysburg, OH – Angela Zimmann, Democratic candidate for Ohio’s newly competitive 5th U.S. Congressional District, released a statement Wednesday in response to Ann Romney’s “Women for Mitt” event in Findlay, which also featured Zimmann’s opponent Congressman Latta’s wife:

“I suppose given Congressman Bob Latta’s history of voting against the women of Ohio in every category – pay equity, domestic violence, healthcare, etc. – that I should be happy that Congressman Latta’s family is talking about women today in a positive way – but I’m not. I’m shocked that the totality of Congressman Bob Latta’s solutions for Ohio women can be summed up with his lovely wife’s appearance today at a Women for Romney event.

While I respect Marcia’s right to free speech, it cannot go unsaid that Congressman Latta owes Ohio women more than his better half’s appearance at a presidential rally. He owes women his support and solutions to real problems – and Ohio women have not gotten that from Congressman Latta.

Congressman Latta and the extremists have taken an aggressive stance against women’s rights, including women’s economic equality, health care, and reproductive choices. Congressman Latta and his extremist friends have taken radical stances against every woman in Ohio and their families and his long record in Congress is a direct attack on the progress women have made throughout our nation’s history and will continue to force Ohio women back by decades.

My opponent is one of the most extreme anti-women representatives in the House: he has repeatedly voted against paycheck fairness, against increased funding for female victims of violence, and against organizations like Planned Parenthood that provide lifesaving health care to women and their families. Congressman Latta even went so far as to co-sponsor a bill that would redefine rape, championing the offensive phrase ‘forcible rape.’ Simply put, Congressman Latta and his extremist colleagues are not serving the interests of our women. Instead, they are actively advocating an extreme agenda that hurts our women, our families, and our wellbeing.

Good for Marcia Latta for making a public appearance, but what we really need is for her husband to stop his war on Ohio women.”
