The idea for this video came to me after I had a conversation with a friend who was contemplating the reality of paying her student loans at the rate of $1200 per month for thirty years. She has a PhD in a highly competitive field. Many of the tenure track jobs in her field are disappearing as colleges and universities are hiring an increasing number of adjunct professors. Hers is only one of literally hundreds of stories I have heard about people from middle class backgrounds trying to get a decent education while the cost of tuition continues to go up while income and wages stay stagnant.

When I am a Member of Congress I will use every opportunity available to promote access to higher education regardless of income or status in society. We cannot afford to let some of our brightest individuals miss opportunities for bettering our world because they could not afford to open doors to higher learning.
